Everyone joining Shell Abu
Dhabi soon comes to realise that
Hyder Ali, Abbas Kandige, Abdul
Basheer and George Shaigy form
the backbone of the company. Their dedication and friendly
attitude make everyone’s life
easier!
Hyder and Abbas coordinate all
work related to liaison with
government offices such as the
Immigration Department, Abu
Dhabi Municipality, Abu Dhabi
Chamber of Commerce and
Industry and the Department of
Planning and Economy, as well
as ministries and embassies.They assist new joiners in quickly
finalising the procedures and
formalities required for their
residence in Abu Dhabi. They
are also responsible for renewing
the company’s legal documents.
Their duties require an in-depth
knowledge of the laws, rules,
regulations and policies
governing Abu Dhabi and the
UAE in general. Their working
hours vary and can include
evenings and weekend work.
Hyder, who celebrated his 10th
anniversary with Shell in March,
comments on his work saying, “I
treasure my years with Shell Abu
Dhabi. I have developed close
relationships with the staff and
their families.”
Abbas, who has been working
with Shell since 2001 says, “I
consider the team at Shell Abu
Dhabi as my second family as I
sometimes seem to spend as
much time with them as my own
family!”
Basheer’s role is office based and
involves looking after the
documentation and archives
section of the company, the company store, and the
stationery, photocopying and
printing requirements. His active
and pleasant nature in the office
is highly appreciated by
everyone. Basheer joined Shell
Abu Dhabi in 2000 and has
established strong relationships
with all staff. “What encourages
me most in my job is the
appreciation I receive,”
comments Basheer.
George provides indispensable IT
support. Dealing with new
software requirements, internet
connections, assisting with the
different GID issues that arise on
a daily basis and coordination
with Etisalat are among just a
few of his duties. His
responsibilities also include
provision of security access to
the Shell Abu Dhabi office
premises. Commenting about his
work, George says, “When I
started work at Shell Abu Dhabi
in 2003, I was impressed with
the friendly and supportive
atmosphere in the office. I am
happy to report that this has
continued through to the present
day.”
Shell Abu Dhabi’s Managing
Director, Dr. Mohamed Defrawi,
comments on the importance of
the team of four to the smooth
running of the office, saying:
“Aside from the indispensable
duties they perform, their
willingliness to assist is what is
appreciated more than anything.”
