Q. Can you tell us about the new Global Restructuring of Shell's Lubricants business. What is the time structure for this, and what benefits, in your opinion, will it bring to the business?

The Oil Products Executive has been looking for some time at ways of restoring Shell to its global leadership position in the Lubricants business. The strategy has two main thrusts. Firstly, the announced proposed acquisition of Pennzoil Quaker State Lubricants Company in the USA and, secondly, improved focus on our ongoing Lubricants business in order to improve profitability and growth.
Following on from the successful establishment of a number of OP global businesses within Shell, such as the Marine, Aviation and LPG businesses, the Oil Products Executive decided to establish a Lubricants business managed by a single global entity.
In order to move towards achieving this, there will be a transition period from January of next year, during which time the East Zone business will migrate as a first step to a zonal Lubricants business, and this will be followed as a final step into a full global Lubricants product business.
Over the next four months we will be developing both the interim and final global structures and the necessary processes to make them work efficiently. This will require changes to parts of our SOPE [Shell Oil Products East] Commercial and Retail businesses.
The teams working on these changes are already in place and we will be endeavouring to keep all the staff affected by the changes well informed during the next four months.
Whilst this is another structural change to our business, I am confident that it will bring a greater focus to our activities and will reflect the desire to strongly grow our Lubricants business into a genuine world leadership position.
