Shell promotes “Goal Zero”
NO harm to people, and NO incidents
As part of the Shell Group’s continuing efforts to
improve safety standards amongst staff in Shell
companies, joint ventures and contractor companies,
Shell Abu Dhabi office lead the roll out of the “Goal
Zero” theme in its formal and non-formal gatherings.
Shell’s role as a good corporate citizen in Abu Dhabi is
emphasised through maintaining the highest safety
standards, reducing risks in all locations to “zero” level,
as well as protecting the personal safety of its staff, the
contractors’ staff, as well as the general public.

Shell’s safety message was very clear in all events that
took place in Shell Abu Dhabi. The Shell Safety Day,
attended by all Shell staff and secondees, was an opendiscussion
forum where the importance of respecting
and abiding by the HSE golden rules of “comply,
intervene & respect” was emphasised. During the
meeting, Shell management recognized the performance
of its employees who have already reached “Goal Zero”
in their duties. Hyder Ali & Abbas Mohamed, Shell
drivers, were awarded for their safe driving during their
years of employement at Shell. While driving for
400,000 kilometers on the road during his 10 years of
employment with Shell, Hyder has “zero” incidents on
his record. Abbas, driving 200,000 kilometers on the
road over the past six years, also has “zero” incidents
on his record.
On the global level, the Shell EP Internal
Communications team won the Golden World Award
for its communications plan to launch Goal Zero. This
internationally recognised award is an annual event
held by the global Public Relations industry body. The EP
team was praised for its plan, which stood apart from
hundreds of other entries with its structured approach,
scalability and creativity. Goal Zero was launched in
June 2007 to step up the pace of change towards an
accident-free workplace.
